National Dance Day Marks Nashville Launch of DANCEFIX

At its sixth consecutive year celebrating National Dance Day with a free day of dance on Saturday, July 30, Nashville Ballet will offer a preview of its new fall adult class DANCEFIX, a high-energy, adult dance workout class.

Founded by Heather Britt, a professional dancer and choreographer from Cincinnati, Ohio, DANCEFIX will only be available at Nashville Ballet outside of Cincinnati. Classes feature diverse choreography, including everything from hip hop and jazz to Latin and lyrical. Each hour-long session, designed for both new and experienced dancers, includes a short warm-up, a toning session and 45 minutes of original choreography.

“DANCEFIX was created to strengthen the connection between self-expression and community-building through dance,” Britt said. “We’ve seen an overwhelming response at Cincinnati Ballet since its introduction 10 years ago, and offering it at Nashville Ballet feels like a natural next step because of its similar mission.”

DANCEFIX will be offered regularly in Nashville Ballet’s Community Division for ages 18 and up of any experience level beginning after Labor Day, but all ages are encouraged to try it free at National Dance Day to celebrate the launch. Britt will be on-site at the event to lead the classes.

“Nashville has a strong adult dance community, and we’re always looking for ways that we can use our space to get people moving in a new way,” Nick Mullikin, Director of School of Nashville Ballet, said. “DANCEFIX offers a welcoming, no-stress environment to try out a new movement style and get excited about dance without the intimidation.”

National Dance Day will feature two back-to-back DANCEFIX classes. Participants of all ages and experience levels are welcome to jump in at any time. Following DANCEFIX, all participants will have the opportunity to learn choreography provided by So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) and perform as a group. The performance will be recorded and submitted to the SYTYCD website. No registration required.

The National Dance Day schedule is as follows:

10 a.m. - 11 a.m.                               DANCEFIX (session one)

11 a.m. - noon                                   DANCEFIX (session two)

Noon - 1 p.m.                                    SYTYCD choreography

Launched in 2010 by SYTYCD co-creator Nigel Lythgoe, National Dance Day is an annual celebration that encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Following National Dance Day, Nashville Ballet will hold open auditions for instructors to lead its DANCEFIX classes beginning this fall. Click here for more information about National Dance Day, DANCEFIX and the audition.
