Originally from Huntington Beach, Calif., Jamie Kopit began her training at Southland Ballet Academy. At 15, Kopit was awarded Grand Prix in the senior division at the Youth America Grand Prix Los Angeles Regional competition. After competing in the competition’s finals in New York, Kopit was offered a scholarship to the Royal Ballet School where she trained for two years and had the opportunity to work as an apprentice at Birmingham Royal Ballet in David Bintley’s Cinderella.

From the Royal Ballet Upper School, Kopit joined the prestigious American Ballet Theatre (ABT) as a corps de ballet dancer where she spent six seasons. During her time at ABT, Kopit toured internationally in Beijing, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Paris, Barcelona, Muscat and Abu Dhabi. While she has treasured dancing in numerous roles, Kopit cites dancing alongside ABT’s principal dancers at Lincoln Center in the world premiere of Mark Morris’s After You and Jessica Lang’s Her Notes as a dream come true. She also cherishes the opportunity to dance any role in Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet, deeply moved by Sergei Prokofiev’s score.

Passionate about a holistic approach towards movement, Kopit also teaches the GYROTONIC® expansion method. Doing so helps her take care of her body and maximize her full potential as a dancer, while also helping others to lead stronger, healthier lives. Kopit comes from a family of veterinarians, so she loves being around animals as well.
