ABOUT community engagement
Nashville Ballet strives to promote dance as an essential and inspiring element of our community with wide-reaching and innovative educational dance programming for schools, businesses and community groups throughout Middle Tennessee.
Through public and private funding, the Community Engagement initiative of Nashville Ballet strives to expose children, teens and adults to the artistry, beauty and athleticism of dance by providing unique dance experiences that cultivate an interest in the art form of ballet.
Each of our school curriculum-based programs meet many of the developmental and academic standards set forth by the state of Tennessee and Metropolitan Nashville Public School (MNPS) system and is designed to appeal to the various learning styles and needs of all ages.
School and Touring Programs
Nashville Ballet makes it part of our mission to permeate the city and surrounding communities with live dance experiences through our school and touring programs:
Storytime Events – A Nashville Ballet Teaching Artist tells a ballet story and teaches a short classical variation for children ages 3 – 6.
Elementary School Student Programs – narrative, full-length children’s ballet programming that promotes overall academic achievement and character development through a holistic approach to arts education.
Middle School Student Programs – dance performances and interactive activities that expose older students to more in-depth ballet concepts such as abstract ballet and contemporary movement.
High School Student Programs – completes the overall dance education learning cycle, enabling high school students to build upon the concepts learned in earlier ballet programming.
Residency School Partnerships & Arts Integration Experiences – partnerships with pre-selected area Title 1 MNPS elementary schools to provide live dance performance experiences at no cost to the school or students.
Family and Community Programs
Our Family and Community Programs introduce audiences to the art of dance at public performances and help us achieve our mission to develop and cultivate educated viewers with a love and appreciation for the art form. These programs provide opportunities to enjoy an intimate, educational experience with our artists:
A “Head Start” On Dance – An interactive full length children’s ballet designed specifically for Pre-K through kindergarten audiences.
Performances at the Nashville Public Library – free performances of our touring ballets and storytime events.
Belmont University Community Children’s Ballet – free annual community children’s ballet performance in Belmont University’s Massey Performing Arts Center.
Holiday Magic – offering free tickets to Nashville’s Nutcracker to social service agencies serving economically underprivileged populations.
Project Plié – In partnership with American Ballet Theatre, Nashville Ballet partners with local Boys and Girls Clubs of America to offer full scholarship opportunities for members to train at the School of Nashville Ballet.
