Program Description

Ballet Beginnings

In collaboration with the Nashville Public Library, Nashville Ballet offers special grant funded ballet story-times, free of charge, at over 20 Metro Nashville libraries across Davidson County. An interactive learning program designed to be a great introduction to the art form of ballet. Dressed in full costume, a ballerina reads a ballet story while performing a classical variation from that ballet. Using a series of age appropriate exercises, the dancer also teaches the audience members a variety of fun jumps, turns and poses accompanied by music from the ballet story.

2009 - 2010 "Ballet Beginnings"

A "Nashville Nutcracker" Story Time

A holiday classic comes "to life" for the audience members as one of our ballerinas, dressed in full Sugar Plum Fairy attire, reads our own Nashville version of the timeless Nutcracker story, and engages audience members to learn a variety of jumps, turns, and poses for popular characters from the ballet, such as Clara, the mice and Swiss Lambs.

"A Midsummer Night's Dream" Story Time

Just in time for our spring performance premiere, this interactive story time will introduce young audience members to the humor and magic of this Shakespearean classic, as well as the beauty and grandeur of classical ballet, as a ballerina, dressed in full fairy attire, reads excerpts from the story and teaches audience members turns, jumps and poses all good woodland princes and princesses should know to steal the show!
