Nashville Ballet's official second company.
NB2 candidates are required to attend School of Nashville Ballet’s Summer Intensive.
Dancers who are selected for this pre-professional division show the promise of pursuing a career in dance. This program gives them the opportunity to improve the skills needed to achieve their goal of a performing career.
There is no fee for joining the program and NB2 dancers are welcome to take any additional classes offered at School of Nashville Ballet free of charge.
Dancers perform NB2-specific repertory throughout the community. Original works are created by Nashville Ballet Artistic Director Paul Vasterling, as well as nationally recognized guest choreographers.
Dancers also have the opportunity to perform with Nashville Ballet company members in such ballets as Giselle, Swan Lake, Nashville’s Nutcracker, The Four Temperaments and Serenade, depending on the opportunities available in the season repertoire.
NB2 trains and performs Monday through Friday, 9:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. Morning class is 9:15 to 10:45.
Rehearsal periods are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m., with an hour lunch break in between. The rehearsal schedule is posted 24 hours in advance. Outreach performances are scheduled within the rehearsal week, occasional weeknights and some weekends. Outreach performance schedules are posted monthly.
Learning Outside the Studio
Nashville Ballet provides opportunities for NB2 dancers to learn outside of the studio as well. A unique partnership with nearby Belmont University allows dancers to apply their dance experience toward earning a Bachelor’s degree. They can pursue a degree through part-time enrollment and flexible class schedules.
