School of Nashville Ballet, Part-time Faculty

Area of Responsibility: School of Nashville Ballet 

Wage Classification: Hourly; Non -Exempt

Position Summary: The position of Part-time Faculty Member will focus on implementing the artistic vision and curriculum standards set forth by the Artistic Director and School Dean. Their primary duties will consist of teaching and developing of the students of School of Nashville Ballet. Part-time faculty members will also work closely with Full Time Faculty members in the development of School of Nashville Ballet curriculum through constant communication. In addition, they will be expected to uphold Nashville Ballet’s reputation for artistic excellence and make regular and active contributions to a creative and enthusiastic working environment. Part-time faculty members will also be expected to adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by School of Nashville Ballet with regards to appearance, demeanor, work ethic, completion of time sheets and important employment paperwork and maintaining a collegial atmosphere.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Teach classes in the School of Nashville Ballet’s divisions as assigned by supervisors
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of the SNB curriculum by attending faculty meetings, taking part in discussion and watching full time faculty members teach whenever possible
  • Promote School of Nashville Ballet in the community at special events in ongoing effort to increase School enrollment  
  • Serve as an advocate to the community and academy students and parents of the School of Nashville Ballet in order to assure they maintain confidence in the value of the educational opportunities provided as indicated by their continued enrollment in our programs


General Responsibilities and Policies:

  • Attend regular faculty meetings throughout the year (as availability permits)
  • Interface with all faculty members and staff members with regards to aspects of SNB
  • Appear as a representative for Nashville Ballet or SNB (as needed) in the media
  • Staff are asked to be available for substituting when possible
  • Adhere to policy for Planned Absences (vacations, etc.)
  • Adhere to policy for Unplanned Absences (illness, emergency, etc.)

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds with assistance.

While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Work Qualifications:

  • Have had a career with a professional ballet company, a degree in dance education or a certification in ballet teaching from an accredited teacher training program.
  • Have had 2-5 years, minimum, of teaching experience.


Work Requirements:

  • Willingness to teach at Nashville Ballet’s two studio locations - Brentwood and Nashville
  • Have an affinity and passion for teaching children 3-10 years of age
  • Have an outgoing personality as well as an ability to communicate age appropriately with children
  • Maintain an organized and positive classroom atmosphere
  • Instruct and model proper ballet etiquette for students
  • Willingness to follow and adhere to an established syllabus
  • Is a team player and enjoys working in a collaborative environment
  • Is able to take constructive feedback to achieve results inside the classroom
  • Has a high energy level and needs to be fully willing and able to participate in the physical activities required in the children’s classes
  • Willing to adhere to faculty and organizational dress code requirements
  • Ability to provide leadership to students and dancers
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic use of computers (word/excel), knowledge of studio equipment
